Many of the homeowner insurance carriers in Florida that are Demotech rated for financial stability have recently gone through a rigorous review of their ability to survive financially in the Florida climate. Several of those insurers just received the good news that their financial ratings were affirmed (meaning no change) by Demotech, one of the most popular entities for evaluation of Florida property insurers. While this is good news, there is a strong word of caution. While the ratings have been affirmed, many of these carriers have had to take drastic actions to maintain those ratings including large rate increases in premiums charged and non-renewals of policies in areas affected by larger than expected losses. Carriers that do not appear on this list may instead be rated by A.M. Best (www.ambest.com) or were omitted for various reasons.
